GET STORMY – G1 Winner and G1 Sire

Get Stormy, a leading sire at Crestwood Farm died unexpectedly on March 6, at the age of 16 from what is believed to be a cardiac event.  Get Stormy, a son of Stormy Atlantic, bred and owned by Mary A. Sullivan, raced under the name Sullimar Stables.  Get Stormy, trained by Tom Bush had a long successful campaign which included 7 Graded Stakes wins. Racing until the age of 6, Get Stormy was a three-time Grade 1 Winner, winning the Marker’s Mark Mile (G1), Woodford Reserve Turf Classic S. (G1), Gulfstream Park Turf H. (G1).  From 31 career starts, he compiled a record of 11-5-4 and earned $1,606,812.

“Get Stormy was an amazing racehorse, and came to us with all the credentials and a tremendous following. He was such a great physical, and was a pleasure to be around. He was poised to become a top sire, as his best bred crops have yet to race. We are sorry and shocked; he is a great loss to our farm and Storm Cat’s legacy” said Pope McLean of Crestwood Farm. 

Get Stormy was popular his first year at stud when he arrived at Crestwood Farm, breeding 120 mares in his first season.  Get Stormy’s first crop included Graded Stakes Winner FIFTY FIVE, a 9 time stakes winner, earning $1,088,288 and was named NY Champion Three Year Old Filly in 2017 and NY Champion Turf Female in 2019.  Also from Get Stormy’s first crop, was Multiple Graded Stakes Winner, STORM THE HILL.

Get Stormy’s most prolific runner, the Multiple Grade 1 Winning filly, GOT STORMY with earnings of $2,468,403.  She won the Fourstardave (G1) in 2019 and again in 2021.  In GOT STORMY’s initial win of the Fourstardave (G1), she set a new course record completing 1 Mile in 1:32, while defeating males at Saratoga Race Course.  In December of 2019, GOT STORMY won her second Grade 1 stake in the Matriarch S. (G1) at Del Mar. 

As of March 5, 2022, Get Stormy is the sire of 229 starters, 123 winners, 6 Graded Stakes Winners GOT STORMY (G1), FIFTY FIVE (G3), GET SMOKIN (G2), STORM THE HILL (G3), GO NONI GO (G3), GETMOTHERAROSE (G3) and a total of 11 black-type winners and total progeny earnings of $12,188,748.

New Stakes WINNER for GET STORMY

NANTUCKET RED is the newest stakes winner for GET STORMY as she wins the Wayward Lass S. on DIRT at Tampa Bay Downs, on Saturday January 15. NANTUCKET RED broke sharply, went straight to the lead setting fast fractions of 23:2, 47:2, while maintaining a lead of 3 Lengths. NANTUCKET RED maintained her clear lead throughout and won her first stake by 3 lengths.

The victory in the Wayward Lass S. is the 6th career victory for NANTUCKET RED and now has earnings of $249,999.

GOT STORMY – She’s Still Got It!

GOT STORMY, a 6 year-old daughter of GET STORMY is now a two time winner of the prestigious Fourstardave H. (G1) at Saratoga. The only female to win the Fourstardave (G1) is GOT STORMY, and she joins WISE DAN and FOURSTARDAVE as the only two time winners. In 2019 GOT STORMY set a new course record winning the Fourstardave (G1) in 1:32 and the 2021 winning time of 1:33.09 ranks as the second fastest mile in the history of the Fourstardave (G1).

GOT STORMY was bred by Mt. Joy Stables, Pope McLean, Marc McLean and Pope McLean Jr., and was foaled, raised at sold by Crestwood Farm.

GET SMOKIN (Get Stormy) wires the field in the Seek Again S.

GET SMOKIN was allowed to race comfortably on the lead and took the field gate to wire in the Seek Again S. at Belmont Park, going 1 Mile in 1:33.96. GET SMOKIN the son of Get Stormy, is now a 3 time stakes winner and has earned $376,040 in 14 starts.

Another Graded Stakes Win for GET STORMY!

GET SMOIN was a Graded Stakes Winner at the age of 3 winning the G2 Hill Prince S. at Belmont, and he is now a Graded Stakes Winner at the age of 4. GET SMOKIN sat just off the pace in 2nd and pounced on the leader on the turn into the stretch and arrived mid-stretch with a 3 length lead. GET SMOKIN went on to win the Grade 3 Tampa Bay S. going 1 and 1/16 miles in 1:40.75. The time was just one second off the track record record.

GET SMOKIN (Get Stormy – Hookah Lady, by Smoke Glacken) was bred by Hurstland Farm Inc and James Greene Jr. GET SMOKIN was purchased as a yearling at the FTK Oct sale from the Hurstland Farm consignment by Taproot Bloodstock, agent for Mary A. Sullivan.

GET SMOKIN wins G2 Hill Prince

After being Multiple Graded Stakes placed, GET SMOKIN breaks through and takes the field gate to wire in to G2 Hill Prince at Belmont Park.

GET SMOKIN set all the fractions over the turf course labeled yielding, and fought off G1 Winner Decorated Invader to notch is his first Graded Stakes victory.

Got Stormy started slow and and finished with a flurry to win the G3 Buffalo Trace Franklin County Stake at Keeneland. Got Stormy has proven to be a versatile filly winning Graded Stakes races at 5 1/2 Furlongs, 6 1/2 Furlongs and 1 Mile.

Got Stormy is a Multiple Grade 1 Winner and is now a 5 time Graded Stakes Winner with earnings of nearly $2 Million. She was bred by Mt Joy Stables, Pope McLean, Marc McLean, and Pope McLean Jr. Got Stormy was also foaled, raised and sold by Crestwood Farm.
